Hadleigh Dolphins were in action again on Sunday 14th October, but
this time it was the oldies turn not the youngsters! A Squad of 14
adult swimmers aged 23 years to 54 years were competing in the ASA
East Region Open Masters and 18-24 years age group champs at Bury, Suffolk.
These 2 championships ran concurrently.
Sarah Holden, aged 23 years was competing in the 18-24 year
championships in 4 individual events and 4 relay events. She had a
very successful meet, bagging 1 Gold medal, 3 Silvers in her
individual races. Sarah, one of the Dolphins regular squad was
pleased with her performances, building on her earlier successes in
September, in Diss, where she clocked county and regional
qualification times. Excellent swimming Sarah!
Kern Death, head coach, who also competed, was pleased with the
performances and team spirit demonstrated.
In the masters competitions, the age groups are arranged as follows:
25 years to 29 years, 30 years to 34 Years, 35 years to 39 years and
so on. The Dolphin Squad ranged from 25 years to 54 years old.
Two Master swimmers, Richard Goodchild aged 30 and Brian Russell aged
54, competed in individual events. Richard bagged 3 gold medals in
his Breast stroke events and Brian collected 7 Medals in total,
2x Gold, 1x silver and 4x Bronzes. Well done to both of them.
The rest of the Masters Squad were competing in the various relay
events. Some swimmers were competing in their first ever swimming
competition and many, had not competed since childhood, so there were
a few jangly nerves. However, It is fair to say that they dominated
the relay events. The women won 4 x Golds and 2x Silver medals. The
Men won 2 x Gold and 3 x Silver and between them, in the Mixed Relays
the dolphins took 2 x Golds, 2 x Silvers and 2 x Bronze Medals. Kern
Death, who also competed, was pleased with the performances and the team
spirit demonstrated. Overall, The Dolphins bagged 14 Golds, 9 Silvers and 6 Bronzes.
Well worth the trip to Bury.
