TEACHING

COACHING

LearnersImprovers
We welcome non-swimmers into the club.  We are limited by the amount of shallow water in the pool (about 4 metres of the pool is 0.9m deep).  This constrains the group size.  In order to teach children to swim as fast as possible we often have the older swimmers in the club and teachers in the water supporting the main teacher.  They work to a strict code of conduct.  However if parents with their children being supported by in-water help we will remove this support.  This is the transition group from teaching to coaching and includes the building of knowledge of basic training such as warm up, warm down, reading the pace clocks.  We aim to ensure that all swimmers leaving this group must have their Competitive Start Award before progressing to the next level.
BeginnersJunior
This group can swim across the pool.  Some basic water confidence, capable of rotating from front to back and of course back to front.  They swim out of depth and gradually progress into ever deeper water. Generally between the age of 9 and 12 years old depending on sex.  This is a Coaching orientated group (although teaching never ends).   The emphasis is to build stamina and stroke techniques. Plenty of varied activities to maintain interest and beginning to develop the concept of measurement and training plans.
Improvers Senior
Within Hadleigh Swimming Club there are two more levels of swimmers developing their strokes.  These swimmers generally come in from private classes or schools taught classes. These swimmers progress through a number of standards within the ASA National Teaching Scheme, initially swimming the width of the pool and moving on to length work. The ongoing development of competitive swimming is applied to swimmers 13 yrs onwards.  The training programme operates around four training cycles focused on key goals pitched at the current standard of the club, namely, our club championships in November; the Suffolk Age Group Championships in April; our Long Distance Championships in July;  the fourth cycle is the Summer Break.  We encourage all our swimmers to take a well earned summer break which in our experience has allowed them to recuperate and return year on year.  Many members are well into the twenties and been swimming since the age of 6!
 Masters
Originally this group of swimmers were keen parents who literally swum to keep fit and help maintain the membership income.  However today we have an active group of adult swimmers, some with children in the club others new to the area.  The standards of the adult group vary greatly from ex-swimmers through to keep fit swimmers.  We are not well equipped to teach adults to swim from scratch (we have never been asked).   The adults swim alongside the Junior and Senior swimmers although they have their own lanes and work to modified programmes.  Very enthusiastic adult swimmers work with the senior swimmers.
